The release of the Mueller Report has changed everything
about what we need to do as Democrats to remove the cancer that has affected
our nation. Its detailed accounts of the scale of Russian interference in our
politics and the efforts of Republicans to conceal it presents us with a
challenge unparalleled in American history.
The GOP wants us to move on, but we cannot do so.
Normalizing this corrupt behavior will entrench it into our future politics,
and American Democracy will be DEAD. Conservatives will learn how easy it is to
use foreign propaganda to help them win elections, and Republicans will now see
that abandoning the rule of law has NO consequences whatsoever.
Democrats have been far too timid in approaching this issue.
Our party's leaders are so terrified of how we will "look" if we go
after Donald Trump. Many avoid the "impeachment" word, fearing that
the topic will turn off moderate voters.
I am convinced this is a terrible strategy. In my opinion,
we need to go full out, with a no holds barred assault on Trump and his
corruption. Most of the current candidates for President are tip-toeing around
the issue, claiming to want to talk about "issues" rather than Trump.
This is a mistake. We could lose more voters by NOT going after the president
than we would by avoiding him.
The winning candidate will be the one that says "I am
out to defeat Donald Trump. Yes, I have good proposals, but getting rid of the
rotting corruption of our political system is the most important goal to
me." Impeachment hearings need to start immediately. Every one of Trump's
toadies, advisers and enablers needs to be hauled in front of Congress and
grilled about what is happening in the White House. There needs to be public hearings
every day up until the election, reminding voters about the massive
contamination of our system with greed, dishonesty and mendacity.
Republicans could care less about "how they look."
They slandered, insulted and persecuted President Obama and Hillary Clinton for
8 years and ended up winning the White House. We have to do the same. Our
attack must be relentless, comprehensive and focused on revealing the depth of
depravity of our opponents. Voters must learn about how the GOP has abandoned the
Constitution, sought help from our enemies and used their positions of power to
enrich themselves at the public expense.
This is the ONLY way we will be able to return our country
to the values on which it was founded.
